2019 COMMON PIR DAY

Friday, Sept. 27, 2019
Manhattan High School
8:30 am - 3:30 pm
"Connecting & Collaborating

to Support the Whole Child"

Hosted by the Manhattan School District

- page updated August 27, 2019 -

Picture
Join us for a day of learning with keynote speaker Pete Hall. A former teacher and principal, Mr. Hall is co-author of best-selling and award-winning Fostering Resilient Learners: Strategies for creating a trauma-sensitive classroom (ASCD, 2016) and Relationship, Responsibility, and Regulation - (ASCD, 2018), and a passionate advocate of the Whole Child.
PIR DAY SURVEY
Thank you to all the attendees who responded to our brief PIR survey to
help us prepare for next year's PIR Day on Friday, Sept. 25, 2020.
DESCRIPTION: In our continuing professional learning regarding SEL, self-regulation, and supporting the whole child, internationally-acclaimed presenter Pete Hall will share his keen insights into the creation of a Culture of Safety that benefits all our students - and adults. Designed to go hand-in-hand with other sessions led by his co-author and partner Kristin Souers around the State of Montana, this workshop will review how toxic stress impacts the developing brain, enable participants to obtain clarity of their essential WHY, and explore communication strategies for partnership with parents and families. Learn the characteristics of a Culture of Safety, and implement timely interventions for our students by addressing the New 3 R’s  in education: Relationships, Responsibility, and Regulation. Using scenarios, research, and a bank of strategies aligned with MTSS, you will have time during the day to both collaborate with your colleagues in southwest Montana schools (in role- or grade-alike teams as well as in school teams) to brainstorm approaches to meet your students’ needs. Attendees will leave refreshed and excited about meeting the challenges awaiting them with tools in their toolbox and the energy and optimism needed to use them!

IN ADDITION, WE ARE OFFERING:
  • A short video clip from Pete Hall with highlights from the day to share a preview with educators attending (site password is SSOM19)
  • Sept. 9: an online pre-meeting with administrators to review big ideas, strategies, and resources that will be covered.

REGISTRATION FEES
$35 per participant - including (good) coffee and lunch ;)
